This is an exercise.
This is a re-familiarisation
with the things
I don't think about.
There's a board under my laptop.
It's grey cardboard
taped together
with brown packing tape
along the edges.
It's half an inch thick.
I made it years ago.
One side is blank. This
is the side I draw on.
The other side
has scrawls
and notes
going back
six
or seven
years.
Some of them
I can barely read.
... love with ...
... give her a ... since ...
... very old ...
... kind'a eldritch ...
It's written in different corners,
different handwritings,
different pens,
surrounded
by stains
where I've spilled tea
and tomato sauce.
I run my fingers along them,
these faded memories,
and remember
why each one exists.
