You've left the house
without a word
of when you're coming back
and peace settles
in your absence.
I clean the tables,
sweep the floors,
vacuum the space
between the pillows.
I sing in the kitchen
while I make dinner
for myself
and the creeping demons,
and the empty space
is mine.
