313: Better Than Today

I found your bottle.
I found your shards.
Bleak and dulled,
the gleam still caught my eyes.
One moonlit night
I walked the beach
of an island lost to man,
and picked you
from among the stones and broken shells.
Your blues glimmered in the moonlight,
like little stars emerged from the deep.
I took you home,
I gave you water,
and a windowsill
filled with sunlight on the warmest days.
I let you breathe.
I let you heal.
I gave you time to be alone
in the presence of another.
And soon I found your dullness fading,
your colours
laughing next to mine.
I gave you space
and you flourished,
loved
by the sun, the moon, the stars, the birds —
the wandering insects and leaning flowers,
even the hunting clouds and rolling mist
and dripping rain did nothing
but gently caress you in your growth;
a promise of
a better day,
that tomorrow
will be still better than today.
