They offer me jasmine in the morning,
while dawn creeps over the horizon
to peer at our silence.
Steam rises
as the temperature drops
to a palatable warmth.
They pour
and I drink.
Two mouthfuls,
all there is.
They smile
when I silently
ask for more.
Dawn
catches in their hair.
The aftertaste will stay
like a shadow of light
in the back of my throat.
Unreachable.
Teasing.
A gentle reminder
of the morning's flavour.
