"Tell me a story," the child begs.
"Which story?" you ask.
"Any story."
"Any?" You raise your eyebrows.
The child hums. "Maybe the longest story you can think of."
"Are you trying to get out of going to sleep?"
"Maybe." The child grins.
You laugh and shake your head. "I will tell you a part of the longest story I know. How does that sound?"
"Not the whole story?"
"It will take more than a single night."
The child sighs. "Okay." They make themselves comfortable in their pillows. "Tell me."
You lean back and begin to speak: this is the story of a lifetime.
