285: The Poet's Job

We try to capture emotions
like we hunt for butterflies.
We sweep through the air
towards the dainty flicker of wings,
full of life and colour,
and pin them in a case
in which we hope
they remain whole
so we can come back to look at them
when life grows dull.
We try to capture emotions
to exhibit them in museums
like tomes of human history
of the most intimate kind.
We try to show to others
how we see and feel the world
and hope that someone out there
sees it just like us.
