You are still half asleep
when you feel her run her fingers
through your hair.
Wordlessly you turn
and let her untangle the knots,
then pull the strands together
into slow plaits.
You are distantly aware of her voice,
a quiet hum in the morning dark
of closed curtains,
and when she kisses
your shoulder and neck
you feel it reverberate
through your bones and sinews
like the gentle purr of a satisfied tiger.
Waking up, you turn to face her,
to taste her warm "Good morning" on your lips,
as she sharpens her claws against your spine
and teases the lines of your collarbone,
before she rises to face the world.
