259: Let's Talk About Men

She often hears that poetry
should be written by male poets
to praise the lovely muses, female
dreams of erotic desires,
or by women praising other women
in traditions going back to Sappho,
but what about the men?
What about their smiles and laughters,
and expressions filled with vulnerable
adoration?
What about their quiet focus as they work,
reading or cleaning or chopping carrots,
hands warm and gentle,
hair dropping into their eyes?
What about the ways in which they drop their guard,
peer out from beneath the shells
they have been instructed to wear since little,
and let themselves be soft?
