248: Curious Acrobat

The difference between loving the craft and loving the muse
is a fine spider-spun line of cobweb
between gnarly birches in a shielded crevice
of a rugged mountain. Moss and marsh cotton
reach towards it, but the line remains
unbroken.
I balance the line, a curious acrobat on a wire,
closer to the ceiling than the audience. A misstep,
and the ground threatens cold and consuming,
unforgiving.
How do I pick my way between boundaries
so blurred they bleed out and vanish before me?
I run my fingers through your hair, kiss your temple.
I can't narrow you down
to words and lines on a sheet of paper,
but there are little gleams of gold
that tangle irrevocably
in my spider-spun line.
