224: The Colour Grey

Grey is the colour that makes "nothing" visible. Grey is between black and white. Grey is opposed to extremes. Grey is what wants to disappear. Grey is nothing. But when we say that the sky is grey, it's not ambiguous. When we see a grey rock, it tells a story of melting and moulding and shaping. When we crack it open, it's filled with schist, with quartz and micas, and little garnets. It's a process, still ongoing, metamorphosing from clay sediments to grey rock to sand and soil. It nourishes growth. It is nothing, until it is cracked open.
