She figures herself as a scientist, or perhaps someone doing a jigsaw, as she examines and rearranges the pieces of his body, readjusting her glasses and turning the pieces towards the pale moonlight in the window to see the shapes and colourings. Her fingers wander from his neck to his back and back to his shoulders, finding the nooks and crooks that elicit a response, until she knows that a palm here makes him shift just so, and the graze of a nail there makes him shift like that. She reexamines, testing her results against previous calculations, finding them accurate. Precise. Perhaps in time they will change. In time the jigsaw-science will prove unsuitable. Fall short. But for now she examines, curiously detached, as he rests his shadow over her.
