The rain knocks on the window like tiny hands
tappat pattap tappat
drawing you onto the windowsill to watch it trickle
down along the glass and cheer
for the racing droplets
until you open the window (just a smidge)
and stick your palm out to feel
them playfully splash against your skin, dripping
from your fingertips onto the lawn below
and you giggle at their shimmering sheen
like pearlescent marbles coated in fairy dust
so you push the window until you can tumble out
onto the wet lawn and feel the droplets prickle
your face and your palms and pull your hair
down into the mud and the grass grows
and grows and hugs you welcome
and the tiny hands pat your head and shoulders welcome
and
tappat
pattap
tappat
