She tasted of Manuka honey and dew
slowly melting against the mahogany wood
with sunshine glimmering in her combed hair
glimmering like afternoon gold
and she smiled like honey and touched like honey
and laughed like the little pool of beeswax
at the top of a burning candle
and all she did and all she felt
was wrapped in layers and layers of combs
but she didn't fly and she didn't flee and she lay still
with her honeyed gaze melting in her lashes and it was warm
so warm
when he knelt and she traced the line
from his forehead to his chest and paused between
as her hand rested on his cheek and drew him near
so near
but never near enough.
