You say you're thinking forward (you betray yourself) —
you're absorbed, enchanted,
lulled to sleep
by deftly picked guitar strings, trilling ideologies,
and all you hear and see is here
is now
is eternally locked in the present
where she sits on the concrete step,
locked in her own embrace,
too old, too young
teetering
at the edge of the past at the edge of the future
as your song ties her to your now, loop after loop
immersive
enchanting
and the butterflies and bees think her just another wallflower
they rest their wings on her head and her shoulders
and the passing dog sniffs the grass between her boots
the grass
her boot
the grass
then hurries on with hopes of a treat —
a treat, a treat —
loop after loop,
around her again and again and all she is
is a stony wall with moss and lichen
and you're a musician absorbed in your work.
Note: 'Tellus' is the scientific Latin name of the Earth, from the Roman goddess Tellus Mater or Terra Mater, goddess of earth, marriage, and fertility, also equated with the Greek goddess Gaia.
